BC Tides and Currents
This set of pages is an outgrowth of my interest in oceanography and fishing. There is
a great deal of good stuff out there for providing tide and current information. There are
several useful programs listed below and also some excellent web sites that will generate tide and current information for you.
By the way if you want current Victoria weather info, go
to the weather station I have set up
at St. Michaels University School. I find the most useful page is the
3 day graphs page.
WXTide32
My favourite program for tide and current information is
WXtide32
which is a windows program that will generate tide and currrent information for virtually
anywhere in the world. There are settings for over 260 sites in BC alone! If you want a
copy of this free program please go to the
WXTide32 site.
Be sure to check out their screen shots
page. WXtide32 is based on the Xtide program described above.

Tideview Navigator (no longer available!) :-(
If you want to get an excellent tides and currents program that is specifically for BC and
will interactively show tides and currents for virtually any location, then you should
check out Tideview Navigator
from Channel Consulting.. The thumbnails below will take you to screen shots from
the program.

Walt Bilofsky has created a wonderful free application for the Palm
Pilot that is also based on the Xtide program. It allows you to load databases for
different areas (it takes three to cover all of BC!) and predict tides on the go. The neat
thing about this program is that you can check out the tide or current status for any of
the sites in your database with a few touches of your pilot stylus. See the screen shots
below:

Dave Bucholz has written a port of xtide which works
nicely on a pocket PC (which is what I use now!). With this program, you can
either install the full database (0.92 Mb) or various subsets. The neat
thing about this program is that you can check out the tide or current status
for any of the sites in your database with a few touches of your
pocket PC stylus. See the screen shots below:
